"I recently have returned to my roots in architecture and the enjoyment of imagining places.
The practise of architecture is often concerned with the pristine, the new, whereas my pieces are fantasies of neighbourhoods that feel they have been there a long time, and have grown organically, just like real places. They range across downtown metropolitan centres, suburbs and rural settings.
For me these pieces conjure a nostalgia for landscapes I've dreamed or imagined. I fill them with the architectural quirks that I love: miradors, porticos, narrow alleys, bridges, flying buttresses, stark modern buildings juxtaposed with ancient stoneworks, secret gateways leading to hanging gardens.
I have been really enjoying working at a larger scale, exploring colour and the gestures of painting as well as drawing. I still start with a process of putting in colour on the page before looking for forms within it."
